Broncos release Andrew McCullough effective immediately to join Knights. Concerns: Andrew McCullough has sustained a knee injury during training with the Broncos.
A long-term injury to Newcastle hooker Andrew McCullough has left the Knights without a genuine fit No.9 and could spell the end of their premiership dreams for 2020. He has not been named in the Round 12 team to face the Titans.“He’s pretty good today,” Robinson said of Cordner, who missed last weekend’s clash with the Warriors due to another head knock.“I won’t name him this week. He’s gone down to the Knights this year to play this season with them but he’s still under contract with the Broncos next year.“But now it could be a cap problem for them next year, because he’s on their books, he’s not going to play for the rest of this season, he’s coming off a big injury, whether or not other clubs are going to look as closely at him for next season I don’t know.”McCullough is 30 years old and would have provided some much-needed experience for the Broncos this season, who are enduring their worst season ever and struggling to win a game.On top of their horrible form, Brisbane has just lost star forward David Fifita to the Titans for next year. The Broncos are battling with their salary cap despite the fact Darius Boyd will abandon his $800,000 salary after this season. They’re still paying $1 million for a misfiring Anthony Milford, and about $975,000 for Jack Bird who has barely played a game since being recruited two years ago. They would have hoped to use McCullough’s $600,000 to go to market for some top-end talent to help dig them out of their current slump.A NOTE ABOUT RELEVANT ADVERTISING: We collect information about the content (including ads) you use across this site and use it to make both advertising and content more relevant to you on our network and other sites.
