The payload was mostly switched off during the cruise phase, with the exception of some intermediate check-outs. Initially, Mars Express also carried a small lander called Beagle 2, named for the ship in which Charles Darwin set sail to explore unchartered areas of the Earth in 1831. Each of these teams focussed on the area of its responsibility and interfacing as required. The HRSC camera has been consistently mapping the Martian surface with unprecedented resolution and has acquired multiple images. The event will highlight the key scientific discoveries of the mission and will unveil a new mineral atlas that charts the geological history of Mars.
